DUOTONE PORTRAITS

For this project, I was instructed to edit a photo using the duotone settings in Photoshop. For my initial photo, I chose this portrait that my sister took of me in Ireland.

I first decided to choose the preset called "mauve", seen in the first image. I chose this preset because I assumed it would have a maroon tone to it and maroon is my favorite color. However, it turned out to be a brownish tone.

Next, I wanted to see the contrast between cool and warm duotones. The second image is a cool duotone with a blue tone and the third image is a warm duotone with a yellow tone.

Finally, I wanted to see the various options for simple black and white duotones. So I chose one, resulting in the fourth image. With this photo, I am wearing a black rain jacket and have dark hair so I find when I try to turn it into black and white, it all tends to blend together. However, I was able to play around with the curves and create a black and white tone that separated the various dark elements in the photo.
