Bugs by Numbers

I enjoyed this e-book because it was really simple. I found inspiration in it primarily because it had creatures in it, similar to my own book with farm animals. It seems very simple in text and design, which I appreciate as well. The images look hand drawn and I feel that this aspect gives the book a childish feel. The colors used in this book are very bold; there are not any pastel colors. I feel that bold colors work well in children's books because they are simple. One thing that I do not like about this book is the choice of font. I don't know the exact fonts used, but I feel like the two primary fonts do not go together well.

Patrick Found a Something

This book is very simple, cute, and funny. It is not an e-book in the sense that it has links attached to it, but it is a PDF. I like the simple language and plot of the story, but I am not a huge fan of the drawings. I am not sure what "Patrick" is supposed to be and the book never really explains it. I assume that he and his friends, Kevin and Arty, are monsters. There are a lot of dark colors in this book that I do not enjoy that much, but if the characters are monsters, the dark colors may be part of the theme. I enjoy how the author differentiates the size of the text on some pages because I feel that it adds a little creativity.

The Mouse that Was

This book is probably my favorite that I have looked at so far. I love the plot, drawings, color choices, and typography. The images look more digitally rendered than hand-drawn, similar to how the pictures in my own book are. The colors in this book are very bright compared to the others I looked at. There are many blues and yellows and greens throughout that pop off of the page. Another thing that I really enjoyed in this book was the pieces of text dialogue that surround the animals on the pages. Instead of limiting dialogue to the paragraphs, the author chose to add the effect of the animals speaking.

Trolls and Diwata

This e-book is a book is a collection of Philippine and Norwegian fairy tales.

Totally Bored Boris!

This print book has many illustrations that seem hand done. I enjoy this illustrations more than computer generated pictures because I feel like they give the book a more authentic look. This book uses a lot of warm colors like yellows, oranges, and reds. My favorite thing this book does is include multiple drawings on one page. I enjoy this because the illustrator is not limiting him or herself to just one picture per page. The text in this book is similar to many other print books. The font is a serif font much like Times New Roman and the story is broken up into small paragraphs. I feel that the size of the font is a good choice because it is big enough for children to be able to read it, but not so big that it takes up the whole page.

Tyrone and the Swamp Gang

This print book is brought together by its detailed drawings of Tyrone the dinosaur and the other dinosaurs. I love the pictures in this book because they look authentic and genuine. I also enjoy how many of the images extend from one page to the next, connecting the two. This book uses a lot of cool colors like greens and blues because much of the story takes place in the forest.  The typography in this book is fairy simple, using a serif font similar to Times New Roman. The paragraphs are spaced nicely, making the story easy to read.
